Qualifications

I completed my level 3 extended diploma in animal management. During the second year I opted to choose the practical option as I knew it involved equine. During this time we worked on the college livery yard which was also something I thoroughly enjoyed as it was a different standard of work compared to what I would be doing at the rescue.

Duties of Current Occupation

Working on an animal rescue, maintaining basic care for a range of animals including horses, ponies, pigs, sheep goats, dogs, cats, geese, ducks and chickens

Equine Work Experience

I started working at the rescue voluntary once a week in 2016 then had occasional placements for a block of 4 weeks whilst I was at college completing my level 3 extended diploma in animal management. After college I started volunteering 5 days a week whilst I was looking for a job after a few months I was offered a job and have worked full time at the rescue for 3 years. During this time I have been helping out at riding schools which is a different environment do the rescue and something that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Specialities

During my time at the rescue I have been able to work with horses and ponies that have unfortunately been mistreated and many are difficult to handle. Due to my quiet nature I found that I was able to gain the trust of a certain horse at the rescue and since then I was regularly working with a majority of difficult or nervous horses and have been able to help when tasks such as hoof trims, working, dentist work or vet visits.

Type of Ride Work

When riding I have only had a small experience of riding fresh horses.
