Duties of Current Occupation

While being a yard assistant I was responsible for taking care of the horses and their surroundings: grooming, tacking up, mucking out, cleaning tack, maintaining the yard, feeding, and taking out/bringing the horses in from the field.

Equine Work Experience

I've been riding horses for 8 years, and spent 4 years volunteering at my local riding school every weekend. I was a member of Pony Club where I worked towards my badges and taught and supervised the younger Pony Club children in working towards their own goals. I spent the rest of my time at the school doing day to day jobs such as mucking out, providing the horses with their own feeds, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness around the yard, making sure the tack was cleaned regularly and kept in good condition. I also had experience working in the school's office, taking calls and booking lessons for service users.

Specialities

I worked at a general riding school for 4 years, and used riding school horses to compete in local competitions where I did dressage. Having recently obtained a degree in Physiotherapy I understand the importance of physical activity and exercise, and I think horse riding is a great way to maintain fitness while having fun.

Type of Ride Work

In the 8 years I've ridden, I've had experience in a variety of riding. As I mentioned above, I attended local competitions where dressage was my speciality, but I've enjoyed creating jump courses at my riding school and using these with the horses. I've had experiences in gymkhanas, hacking and cross country.

Competition Details

As above, I really enjoyed using the riding school horses in local competitions where we did dressage tests. It was a great experience for me, and some of the horses I did this with was their introduction to competing which I think was beneficial for them too.
