Mucking out Feeding Grooming Exercising Tack ups Turn out/in Tack cleaning Basic medical care (cuts, grazes etc.)

I have been working at South Medburn Farm in Borehamood since 17th August 2021, after I finished my A-level studies. First I was there as a student working towards my BHS stages and then I became a groom when they stopped providing training for BHS students.

At my current job I work with a range of horses, ranging from retirees to stallions to competition horses. The yard that I am at expects the grooms to work to a very high standard in terms of mucking out, grooming and general yard management. At the same time due to the volume of horses, 65 on the yard, I have to work very efficiently in order to accomplish everything to a high standard in the time frame. I exercise horses daily either lunging or doing a flatwork session with them.

I have mainly been exercising a 16’2 British Sports Horse doing a range of flatwork, show jumping, hacking and lunging. I don’t hunt or do cross country. I also have experimented handling foals and youngsters as at home myself, my sister and my mum rescue young horses and bring them on in handling before selling them to forever homes.
