Equine Work Experience

I have 10 years’ experience working with horses at The Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders. I started as a volunteer and later was employed as a member of staff. I have since returned as an Apprentice Groom to gain qualifications in equine care and management. I have completed the Progressive Riding Tests and am working towards my Stage 2 qualification. This has greatly improved my knowledge in horse care and helped me to better understand what is needed to maintain fields and the environments for horses, enabling me to better look after my own share horse. I have also improved my own riding skills, learning from the staff at Diamond, which I can use in my ongoing desire to become a coach myself. I have gained valuable experience interacting with the public and built up relationships with staff, helpers and the riders, their parents and carers. As a volunteer and now as an apprentice, I am often left on the yard to carrying out jobs to a high standard.

Specialities

I am a very tidying and organised individual. Excellent at keeping a yard tidy and to a high standard. Provide outstanding husbandry and care. Responsible and able to work independently or in a team. Can communicate effectively with others of all age groups and had experience in leadership - often left in charge of volunteers. Good time keeping and efficient.

Type of Ride Work

Competent in flat work and lunging.
