Duties of Current Occupation
Previous horse owner and pony club member. A guide at two trekking organisations, taking groups of children and adults out onto farms, through forests, and teaching them how to ride in an arena. I have also volunteered at the Riding for the Disabled.
Equine Work Experience
I have been passionate about horses since childhood, spending every school holiday at horse camps and eventually leasing a horse at a trekking organisation. This experience led to a role as an instructor and guide for school holiday programmes. At 14, I got my first pony and later owned two more, attending pony club, competing regularly, and caring for my horses daily for roughly 5 years. Though I had to stop riding when I went to university, my love for horses remains strong, and I deeply miss that part of my life. I have also volunteered with Riding for the Disabled, leading horses and teaching people with disabilities about equine care and safety and also worked at a trekking company part-time while I was studying at university. I frequently went on group rides, trekking, jumping, dressage, and have been hunting before as well. I got weekly lessons when I owned my own horse.
Specialities
I have extensive experience working with people with disabilities, both in my role as an assistant psychologist and in other settings. I excel at engaging with children and adults, adapting to a wide range of needs with patience and understanding. I strive to be approachable and inclusive, creating a supportive environment for everyone I work with.
Type of Ride Work
I have extensive experience in trekking, pony club and school-level competitions, beach riding, dressage, one-day events, and show jumping. I’m confident riding a variety of horses, from forward-going to those that need more encouragement, and I adapt well to different disciplines. I have ridden small ponies as well as larger horses, with my last horse being 16"2.
Competition Details
In high school, I competed in various pony club and national school events, primarily focusing on one-day events at training level (95cm), show jumping, and dressage. While I haven’t worked as a groom, I took great pride in turnout and often received compliments on my horse’s beautifully plaited mane, neatly groomed tail, and gleaming coat. I am a hard worker and always ensured everything was well-prepared to keep events running smoothly.
