Equine Work Experience

I have had the pleasure of riding and working with horses for eight years. As the only equestrian in my family I have worked hard to ensure that I have had a thorough and varied array of experience working in different environments and horses. I have particularly focused on bringing on green horses and have found my experience with them to be extremely rewarding. At the age of 14 I began working odd days at livery yards alongside loaning horses and volunteering. By the age of sixteen I had a green, five year old Connemara on full loan who I produced to be sold. I had also worked on a variety of livery yards stabling 12 to 24 horses. This included three days where I took sole charge of a yard and management responsibilities. After taking two years out (whilst working weekends at a small, private yard in exchange for riding) to complete my A-Levels to a high standard, I am eager to re-enter the workforce.

Specialities

A majority of my experience is working closely with owners on livery yards and I am excited to further my experience into the higher levels of the equestrian world. I also have experience in exercising and schooling horses, often young and green. I am confident handling any horse from foals to shires.

Having worked at many yards, I am extremely efficient in yard duties such as mucking out, and pride myself in putting horses' needs and well-being before anything else.

Type of Ride Work

Working with many green horses, often coming from a difficult background, and bringing them on to a high ridden standard has taught me to be both an extremely considerate and precise rider. While I have mainly focused on flat-work and hacking, I am confident jumping up to a meter. I would value any opportunity to advance my discipline-specific skills.

Competition Details

I have competed at local showjumping and dressage competitions. I have not advanced above this due to not being in the financial position to own my own horse. Instead, my focus has always been on 'behind the scenes' care and riding of horses and I enjoy working with horses on the ground just as much as riding them.
