Qualifications
I have achieved from my D-Test through to my B-Test Theory efficiency tests though the Pony Club. This is equivalent to a BHS Level 3 and allows me to be qualified to run a stable yard or coach those at a lower level.
BHS Exams
BHS Stage 3
Equine Work Experience
I have owned my own horses for nearly 12 years and have participated within the Pony Club.l, where I have competed in Eventing, Dressage, Show Jumping, Horse and Pony care, Tetrathlon, competing at the National Championships, and have received up to my B-Test Theory, equivalent of BHS Stage 3. Until last year I competed up to the 110 Class in Eventing Ireland. I have also looked after livery yards where there have been young horses, prepared the horses meals, cleaned out stables and moved horses to their appropriate pens or fields. I have done fence judging at Eventing Ireland Events where I have dealt with injured riders and horses so I am aware of the injuries and the protocol if anything may occur. I was a groom at the National Pony Club Championships. This horse was very temperamental however I was able to accommodate him and get him ready to compete. In school I competed in the Schools Show Jumping, where my team won the ‘Tack and Turnout’ for 3 years in a row.
Specialities
I have helped with judging, grooming and in instructing some of the younger riders within the Pony Club. I have also liveried at a yard with young horses and foals, where I have seen and experienced handling the brood mares and foals. I am currently studying Sports Rehabilitation at St Mary’s University, through this I am learning Athlete Management which helps my skills in dealing with responsibilities of working in a sporting environment and working with an athletic population.
Type of Ride Work
I have experience in most disciplines, including flat work, hunting, games, eventing, endurance and show jumping, and am aware of the difficulty and dedication each one brings. I have experience with young horses, one of my own had only been broken when I bought him and I trained him up to compete within the Pony Club, where I competed him at the National Tetrathlon Championships. Though I haven’t started a horse myself, I have watched some of the young ones at my yard been broken and started.
Competition Details
I have competed in Eventing Ireland in the EI90 and EI100 levels on the horse KND Knabgrabber, who was a horse being moved from doing hunting to doing eventing. I competed in the Pony Club Tetrathlon where I competed up until junior level and at Nationals. I have also competed in Area Eventing and Show Jumping which I competed up to Intermediate level and was going to move up to Open but was unable to. I have also done minor show jumping leagues in pony club and else where up to 1.20m.
