I’m 19 and looking for a working student position to further my riding skills. I have just started cantering, and I aspire to be a trainer. I am motivated to make a career in the equine industry!
My main duties are caring for in excess of 200 horses this includes daily checks, handling young stock and broodmares and leading a team of around 10 people. I’m heavily involved with vet visits often revolving around breeding, which I really enjoy.
I began my career working on a racing yard on weekends where I got the opportunity to ride out and begin to take horses on to the gallops. My duties there were carrying out the day to day yard tasks and helping to prepare horses ready for the races. I have also spent time working and training on an event/stud yard where I kept my own horse. I also carried out the day to day yard duties but also helped with breakers and preparing horses for events upto 1*. I enjoyed getting involved with the breeding side and handling the stallions when covering. Being in this job role helped to compete my own horse up to novice. My current job role of Stud manager has given me the most experience. I work with over 50 foals daily who I spend a lot of time with training them to lead on a halter/stand for the farrier all in preparation for weaning which I am also heavily involved with.I have taken part in a lot of embryo transfers with the vets this year and I am very interested in the breeding side
I have learnt a lot working in my current job role but I feel my specialities lie with training young horses wether that be halter training foals or handling young stock to be able to go on to be broken. I have a lot of experience with young foals and knowing the problems that can occur with them and also mares post foaling and during foaling. I have previously worked in racing and on event yards so I can plait and turn out to a high standard when needed. I am a confident and driven person.
I have ridden on the gallops with various types of racehorses wether that be breakers or mature horses. When working in eventing I have helped to break in several horses and carry on their education. This includes all disciplines depending on their capabilities.
