Coming to job experiences, I can’t say I have anything major However I do have 1 year of equine management which I feel has definitely boosted my experience and confidence with working with horses in the future!
General yard duties
Yes, I worked for a yard a couple of months back. However I didn’t stay for too long as it was a little too far compared to where I was based although I did really enjoy it! It was also quite a fairly large yard, with many people working too although I definitely prefer quieter if not, on my own
Handled a stallion before, although it was a fairly calm one. Familiar with turning out all sorts of different horses and aware of the differences. Also have my own horse so i muck out and turnout etc.. on a daily basis. I try to be as quick as possible as well as keeping it to a high standard
I have my own horse and he’s a connie, very green and can run when spooked so am very used to the fight or flight type aswell as very nervous. He was definitely a problem when I first got him and he has got better but I’m definitely used to that sort.
I also study the equitation part of equine management at College And the course is all about the riding, and they have all different types horses which I have also had the pleasure to ride most of them! Which they had their own temperaments too
I have competed at local shows with my horse every now and then, however he is very hot headed so hoping he’ll slowly get used to the competition environment. At college, being apart of a competition every now and then is apart of our course where you have to help out, set jumps up if knocked and just generally help out and have that responsibility. I was a groom at my old job, but as I mentioned I wasn’t there very long at all! So I do have some experience but most of it is years of my own
