Qualifications
I've trained for BHS1 and been to lots of training sessions with professional riders, but I haven't gotten any qualifications in the equestrian industry as yet.
Duties of Current Occupation
I spend several hours per day with my own horses.
Equine Work Experience
We've (as a family) always had our own yard.
However, I did training for BHS 1 recently in a large Aberdeen yard, and hope to do my exam this year.
Got my first pony at 5. Before that, we loaned a pony. Then I trained him on my own, with a little help from my mum. We then acquired several other horses that we worked with to bring on with natural horsemanship.
When moving up to horses I rode several horses, in particular our horse Buffy sticks out. She was a very sensitive thoroughbred and what inspired me to get my new Thoroughbred that I'm currently bringing on slowly.
Currently, I have two horses, an Anglo Arab who's 16 and a rising 6-year-old Thoroughbred. My mum has a giant cob called Levi who I work with also.
Specialities
I've worked with a wide range of horses from miniature shetlands, to warmbloods and even a hermaphrodite! I've been working with horses since I was 5, when I got my first pony, an unbroken Welsh section A. We worked up the levels and in his time he taught other kids how to ride and event.
We've had a herd of horses at our own yard as far back as I can remember and I've always been keen on keeping a tidy yard, and making sure everything is in order and safe for the horses.
Type of Ride Work
I've ridden a wide range of green horses, backed them and got them up and running. I'm particularly good with sensitive horses, who need time and patience to school, for example, ex-racers or troubled horses. I don't think there are problem horses, as such, more that horses are often misunderstood and easily traumatised by experiences in their lives.
I also LOVE showjumping and eventing. Flatwork is always required, so I have experience there too.
Competition Details
My proudest moment was when I took my first pony out to a derby and he flew over all of the jumps. The highest I've jumped (as yet) is 1 metre, but I want to jump 1m40 someday soon. I've done lots of local show-jumping shows in Mundole and Burgie.
