Equine Work Experience

For the past nearly 20 years I have been running my own business of livery yard and freelance yard work. After leaving school in 1998, I attended pencoed equine college (now part of bridgend college) I then went away to work on a yard that bred and produced young horses for sale. I returned early in 2002 to set up my own livery yard (rented), which alongside this I ran a freelance yard work service for people on their own yards, with some just short term holiday cover and others which turned into regular longterm work. I also for a short time, while setting this up, went back to work on the college yard.

I had been running the business like this until a few years ago when the opportunity came to buy my own yard (lots of help from parents!!) and start up a new livery yard in a different area, and to this time only offer full livery. Which I have done successfully, the yard is only small but I have no more spaces available.

Specialities

I am hard working, reliable and cheerful, have a safe and sensible way of working and am tidy and organised. I am confident working with horses large and small and am firm yet calm when handling. I am able to clip, pull and trim, plait. I'm can undertake field management tasks such as poo picking, have driven a tractor and implements in the past, and am confident with a strimmer. I prefer to work alone but will also work alongside other likeminded people. I also have my hgv licence.

Type of Ride Work

I am a capable rider and whilst I can and do school my own, I wouldn't say this is where my strengths are, for other peoples horses I'm happy keeping them exercised by hacking, though in a correct way, or lunging, and am mostly not phased by naughty or excitable behaviour, I have had many successes bringing on nappy type horses, giving them confidence to ride out well, and same with getting unsure young horses out to see the world.

Competition Details

I have competed my own horse at mostly BE90 level eventing and a little at BE100 level I have had experience of grooming for other riders at competitions
