Qualifications
I have achieved my Level 2 Equine Groom certificate, and I am due to complete my Level 3 Senior Equine Groom certificate on August 17th 2020.
Duties of Current Occupation
I take part in all daily yard duties such as mucking out, turning out, feeding. I work in a riding school/livery/eventing yard so I always have that variety when I get up for work every morning which I love and find extremely challenging.
Equine Work Experience
I volunteer worked on a dressage yard from the age of around 12-15 which first began to broaden my knowledge in the horse industry. I then after GCSEs went on to work for 5* event rider Sophie Brown, taking care of horses from 2yrs old breaking in, up to the top level horses, regularly hacking them and schooling them. In that time working for Sophie I have had 2 horses on loan, which both needed medical attention, unfortunately both getting to the point where they needed to go down the route of euthanasia. KD was a chesnut mare, ISH, who was out eventing and lost her back end, turning out to be a neurological condition which put her in a lot of pain, and struggling to walk. Frankie was a bay gelding, TB, who snapped both collateral ligaments either side of his near hock, which put him in extreme discomfort. Both tragic situations meant I was in sole charge of their medication and treatment before being put down, which shows I can be reliable and trustworthy.
Specialities
Confident in looking after horses when it comes to taking sole charge, ranging from riding school ponies up to 5* event horses. Polite and welcoming to new and existing customers on the yard, setting a good example and producing an excellent yard image. Regularly answering the phone, taking monies, and keeping check of admin records such as farriers, bedding and feed orders, physio therapy sessions and veterinary visits.
Type of Ride Work
I have competed in up to Novice level dressage unaffiliated. Furthermore I have also competed in up to BE80 competitions, and around 90-1m showjumping. Happily schooling round 100 XC fences. We regularly take the event horses galloping to maintain their fitness levels in which I take part in, as I find it a fun and rewarding way to keep both myself and the horses up to standards.
