Duties of Current Occupation
The main duties have included the daily care/husbandry of the horses, assisting with veterinary work (in the stocks, in the stable or in the field), preparing horses for ridden work, preparing horses for covers, and yard/field maintenance.
Equine Work Experience
I have experience working in retail, on livery yards, on riding schools and also on thoroughbred studs. From working on riding schools and livery yards, I developed the necessary skills for completing the daily horse care and husbandry. I am also capable of providing basic equine first aid. From working on thoroughbred studs, I am capable and competent with working with mares, foals, spellers (racehorses on a rest from training/racing) and occasionally working with stallions. Alongside this, I have also worked the Tattersalls yearling and foal sales for 2 reputable thoroughbred businesses. Whilst working the sales, I have shown horses to potential buyers, prepared the horses for the sales ring and taken horses through the sales ring. Alongside this, I can carry out yard and field maintenance tasks and can do so to a high standard. Overall, I am capable and confident handling various types of horses and pride myself in turning horses out to the highest of standards.
Specialities
I am able to work to a high standard and pride myself on turning horses out to extremely high standards. I have experience working in retail, riding schools, livery yards and thoroughbred studs. I have worked with mares (pregnant, barren, maiden), foals, spellers, stallions and more. Because of this, I am confident and capable in handling various types of horses. I also have experience assisting with veterinary work such as putting horses through the stocks and holding for veterinary work.
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden a variety of different horses ranging from riding school horses to ex 3 star horses in an educational setting at college and university. During employment, I have ridden and worked horses on the ground, but it was over the flat due to the horse's workload. However, I am confident jumping up to 60cm.
Competition Details
I have never competed myself. However, I have groomed for competitions and can turn competition horses out to a high standard. I can plait up using bands and thread. At college, I assisted in stewarding commercial equine events and completed an Event Management module at college. For the Event Management module, the cohort planned, organized and ran an equine event raise money for Cancer Research UK.
