Hi! I am an Equine Science BSc graduate moving to Nottingham in August to study a Veterinary Physiotherapy MSc at the University of Nottingham. With over 18 years in the equine industry, I have particular interests in rehabilitation and breeding.
Qualifications

Education:

Degree: BSc (Hons) Equine Science 2:1.

A-Level: Biology - B, Psychology - B, Philosophy - B.

GCSE: 10 grades ranging A-B.

Other:

BHS Progressive Riding Test Equitation levels 1-5, BHS Progressive Riding Test Stable Management levels 1-3, COSHH trained.

Duties of Current Occupation

Equine rehabilitation centre, 3 stud farms (2x Warmbloods and 1x Standardbred), private yard, livery yards, riding schools.

Equine Work Experience

All general yard duties and horse husbandry: mucking-out, preparing and administering feeds, supplements and medications, grooming, turning in/out, first aid, bandaging, mane pulling etc.

Exercising: riding, long-reining, lunging, horse-walker.

Handling: I am comfortable handling stallions, broodmares, youngsters, and foals.

Breeding/Stud: Artificial insemination - semen collection and insemination, stallion, broodmare and foal handling, foal watch, backing/teaching youngsters the basics.

Driving/machinery: Comfortable driving a variety of vehicles including cars, utility trucks, farm carts/buggys, quad bikes, small tractors, small kubota buggys, etc.

I have worked at a wide variety of yards; riding schools, warmblood studs, standardbred studs, equine rehabilitation centres, and private yards. I have loaned a handful of horses, ranging from a 14.3hh British Riding Pony, to a 15.3hh Andalusian, to a 16.1hh ex-racer Thoroughbred.

Specialities

I am capable of completing all yard duties including administering medications and equine first aid.

I am comfortable handling, riding, and exercising a wide range of horses and ponies (including stallions, youngsters, broodmares and foals).

I am a competent horse-person; comfortable in sole-charge roles, happy leading or following a team.

Type of Ride Work

I am comfortable riding a variety of horses, undertaking both flatwork and jumping, alongside enjoying hacks.

I have had involvement in the breaking of a horse, giving me an understanding of the principles of breaking and starting a young horse.

Competition Details

I have worked successfully at various show-jumping competitions as a groom for a small competition yard. I have not yet competed myself, but I would love to given the opportunity.
