Equine Work Experience
I have been part of the equine industry since a young age. I have taught a variety of ability and age riders from those that were actively competing to those who just use riding as a sport and hobby. I am a BHS Stage 3 coach in complete horsemanship and have trained others for their BHS exams, Pony Club tests and assisted in some riding and road safety training sessions. I have taught pony club lessons to children on both riding school horses and their own, again at different stages in their riding education. Teaching theory was also a big part of being an instructor at the riding school I worked at. I have had a period of being a freelance rider, instructor and groom. I offered teaching, breaking, groom and holiday cover services in my local area and also contracted out to a local livery yard for morning yard duties and ridden work.
Specialities
I have worked for a charity that took in and retrained former racehorses. This involved a lot of rehabilitation work and breaking in young and older horses. Some of them were "problem" horses that required extra time and patience. I have worked on an event yard handling fit competition horses. It was also a stud so handling stallions, broodmares and foals was also part of the job. Keeping the yard tidy at both places of work was key as there was a number of visitors everyday.
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden a variety of horses including; breakers, hunters, eventers, show jumpers, ex racers and lots of problem horses. I am confident riding on the flat , over show jumps and hacking but I lack a bit of confidence with cross country. I will do it but it isn't my favourite discipline! I have broken in a few horses over the years and restarted a lot that had been broken young then turned away. This includes my current horse who is still very low mileage despite her age.
Competition Details
I haven't had much experience being involved with large scale competitions or events but I have helped organise and run small scale show jumping and dressage competitions at local yards. I used to help get my previous employers horse ready for when she went eventing which involved bathing, plaiting etc.
