Equine Work Experience

I owned my own horse for 17 years as well as loaning and having shares. My experience within the equine industry started as a weekend helper at a riding school whilst I started volunteering and working for a Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) centre and was involved with training and selecting horses as well as training to be a coach and teaching lessons. I studied Equine management at college and then did a degree in Equine Psychology and Sports Science. During my degree I volunteered at an equine assisted therapy centre, a riding school, did an industry placement year and worked for Bransby Horses. During my placement year I did two internships in the USA with Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) accredited centres. After graduating from my masters in Anthrozoology, I started working for the Donkey Sanctuary as a groom and then worked as equine supervisor for a small horse sanctuary in Surrey.

Specialities

Equine Behaviour: I have trained a variety of horses with experience of different training techniques and a thorough understanding and education in equine learning and cognition. I work with least intrusive, minimally aversive methods and favour the use of positive reinforcement.

Health Care: I have worked in equine welfare charities and have experience of dealing with a variety of health problems, minor injuries and have worked closely alongside vets to provide intensive care for equines.

Type of Ride Work

As my previous roles have been in equine welfare or equine sanctuary's, I have not ridden for quite some time. However when I did ride I would work and school private clients horses, work with green horses, help with the back process and exercise and train therapy horses.

Competition Details

I am not a competition rider/groom.
