Duties of Current Occupation

In my current job I complete the following duties, mucking out, skipping out, Poo picking, turn in/ out, hay, put horses on the walker, feed, groom, lunge, schooling, hack out and plait. I mostly work with livery horses.

Equine Work Experience

I have experience of working in four different yards. My first yard was a riding school with Ponies, where I was employed as a yard assistant. I commenced this role at the age of sixteen, and undertook general yard duties. At times I was left to manage the yard on my own. I then moved to a bigger riding school when I was seventeen. This yard had both ponies and horses to loan. At this yard I was employed to teach young children from the ages of three to fifteen years old, basic riding skills. My third yard was a dressage yard. This yard had both liveries and high standard of dressage horses to care for, I had to occasionally take sole charge of this yard with 10-12 horses. My fourth and current job is full-time with the opportunity to hack some well trained horses, this would be from four star event horses to ponies and retired. This job is a great learning curve for me as I deal with different and challenging young/ mid aged horses.

Specialities

I have experience of working with a variety of horses ranging from stallions to foals. During the Equine Care course at Berkshire College of Agriculture I was taught to muck out to a high standard. A horse owner praised me for both my speed and high standard in this skill. I am aware of the need for a tidy yard as this was taught and practiced during my training with Berkshire College of Agriculture. I have experience in bringing on horses as I have done with my own for the past year.

Type of Ride Work

My riding experience is as follows, I have been riding for seven years. I have loaded a few horses in my time and have ridden green horses and horses from the age of three to twenty. I am experienced in flat work and jumping. I also go up the gallops here and there when needed! I am practiced in riding nervous horses and have experience with starting a horse. I currently have my own horse who is 6 years old.
