Duties of Current Occupation

My role includes most aspects of horse care and yard duties: grooming, mucking out, cleaning tack, catching/turning out, filling haynets, etc. I lead within the school and on roads and accompany staff on longer hacks to exercise the therapy horses.

Equine Work Experience

Learned to ride at between ages eight and fourteen. Experienced life as a ‘stable girl’ (routine mucking out, tacking up, grooming, turning out, etc.) and pony holidays in which I would ‘own’ a pony for five days and carry out the duties of a real horse owner. Gained an intermediate rider certificate and badge (an award given to those able to walk, trot, canter and jump small courses). Experienced hacking out, riding on the roads, 'western' and bareback riding and pony games. Gained valuable stable management skills, responsibility and respect for health and safety at Ferring Country Centre within the Riding Therapy Unit. Role includes most aspects of horse care and yard duties: morning check-ups, grooming, mucking out, cleaning tack, turning out/catching, etc. I lead riders in the school and on roads and accompany staff on longer hacks to exercise the therapy horses. I consistently work on improving the client's riding skill and equestrian knowledge.

Specialities

Adaptable and approachable with experience working in therapeutic riding for children and adults with learning difficulties. Good communication skills with both colleagues and clients with a positive work ethic and understanding of responsibility and safety. Passions include teaching beginners how to ride and care for horses. Competent in physical/manual work and enjoys getting stuck in.

Type of Ride Work

Hacking out, jumping a small course of jumps, schooling and 'pony games'.
