- I'd love to be able to pursue a certificate in equine bodywork while working.
Qualifications
BS in Animal Science with an Equine Emphasis from the University of Arizona. College courses I took covered topics such as equine physiology and anatomy, reproduction, nutrition, exercise physiology, farriery, disease pathologies, and equine business management.
Duties of Current Occupation
Assistant trainer, camp councilor, working student. Stall cleaning, schedualing lessons, handling weanlings and yearlings, foundational groundwork, basic grooming, packing for shows, basic first aid, mixing grain, feeding, holding for vet/farrier/etc
Equine Work Experience
I have worked with a wide variety of horses including (but not limited to) weanlings, yearlings, rescues (neglect and abuse cases), OTTBs, warmbloods, quarter horses, draft horses, and various lesson horses. My riding background is primarily in hunters, though I have also done some dressage. I have been riding for 14 years and have attended numerous local hunter/jumper shows - both to ride and to support my show team. I have a degree in equine science from the University of Arizona, giving me a scientific background regarding equine health and wellness, exercise physiology, nutrition, reproduction, and foundational training. The first horse I re-started on my own gave me a lot of insight into equine body language, it took a lot of groundwork to get him confident before starting him under saddle. This allowed him to be confident with a rider from the first time I backed him to present day. He is now a wonderful lesson pony, and even won division campion with a student at a local show.
Specialities
Worked with weanlings and yearlings, basic equine stretches, teaching lessons under saddle and on the ground for all ages, create worksheets for summer camp
Type of Ride Work
Flatwork, low jumps (up to 2' 9"), hacking/out of arena flatting and jumping, trail riding
Competition Details
I have competed, helped coach, and done basic grooming tasks at local and schooling shows.
