Duties of Current Occupation
Managed AQHA show barn (12–20 horses) for 4.5 years, overseeing health, care, and daily operations. Now run my own training business, helping clients improve communication and relationships with their horses.
Equine Work Experience
I have been around horses my entire life, gaining early experience through 4-H and saddle clubs at county and state levels, primarily in western disciplines but with English riding experience as well. In FFA, I judged horses and received high honors regionally and at state level. Throughout college, while maintaining a full course load, I managed a professional AQHA show barn for 4.5 years as head barn manager and groom, overseeing feeding programs, daily care, and exercising horses not on training board. After college, I launched my own horse training business, traveling to client farms to improve rider communication and strengthen horse-handler relationships. I have experience in colt starting, introducing young horses to training, and preparing them to become reliable partners under saddle. My approach emphasizes natural horsemanship, encouraging horses to respond willingly rather than through force. I also train my own horses in liberty work to build trust and responsiveness.
Specialities
Experienced in caring for retired and geriatric horses, monitoring health issues such as arthritis, Cushing’s, and lameness, and providing compassionate end-of-life care. Managed strict feed, turnout, and exercise schedules for show horses to maintain health and coat condition. In my current freelance training business, I focus on reading equine behavior, identifying root causes, and developing clear communication to solve problems and strengthen horse–handler relationships.
Type of Ride Work
Extensive riding experience across western pleasure, horsemanship, English flat work, and youth rodeo. Skilled in training and starting young or unbroke horses, including mustangs, and experienced with high-value western show horses as well as those requiring special care for conditions like arthritis. While I specialize in western disciplines for training and breaking, I also have experience introducing and schooling horses in English riding.
Competition Details
Competed in 4-H and saddle club events at county and state levels, primarily in western disciplines with some English experience. Judged horses in FFA, earning high honors at regional and state competitions. Worked for 4.5 years as head barn manager and groom at a professional AQHA show barn, caring for and preparing 12–20 horses for competition, managing daily care, exercise, and presentation to maintain peak condition in a professional show environment.
