Whether or not I can bring my own horse is not a dealbreaker for a job, as I might not bring him along either way. It's just nice to know I have the option to.
Duties of Current Occupation

I've worked as a stablehand at multiple barns, taking care of the horses and tasks like feeding, turnout, mucking, grooming, plus basic health monitoring and giving meds

Equine Work Experience

I have almost 9 years of experience riding and caring for horses, starting when I was 11 i took lessons until I was 13, when I leased my first horse who I eventually bought and still ride today. With him I learned to jump and showed in low jumpers for a few years before an injury where a vet suggested we switch to hunters, then did that for a while as well until recently taking a break from showing as he's nearly 25 now. When I was younger I often helped out around the barns with lessons and schoolhorses, helping tack and untack for kids and beginners and helping direct pony camp in the summer. I now work at a private rescue barn where I take care of 10 horses, 4 donkeys, 2 draft horses, and one pig- many of whom have been neglected or abused and require patience and gentle handling.

Specialities

I have worked in a private barn where I was able to work with a foal for a while, but I currently work at a rescue barn where many of the horses have been abused or neglected in some way, and i know how to safely interact with horses that are spooky, not used to being handled, or untrusting and how to gently deescalate situations where a spooked or upset horse may become dangerous. i can give basic medical care like small wound dressings, giving medications, leg wraps and treating abscesses.

Type of Ride Work

Ive been riding english for 9 years, with some experience with western, I jump 2-3' in both hunter and jumper divisions.

Competition Details

Ive competed in countless local shows on long island over the years, from short stirrup to hunters and jumpers. I was also on my home barn's IEA team in high school and showed in that for a year. Ive been to HITS Saugerties 3 times, and though Ive never worked at a competition I act as my own groom at away shows, feeding, mucking and tacking up my own horse for the event.
