Duties of Current Occupation
Horseback riding summer camp counselor, lesson instructor, teaching assistant, guide, wrangler, and more!
Equine Work Experience
I grew up riding English in NC and my love for horses has been growing for 10+ years. I particularly enjoyed being a summer camp counselor and lesson instructor where I had the opportunity to teach children about horsemanship and see them fall in love with horses, just as I had. When I went to college, I started riding Western. My degree, Anthrozoology, refers to the study of human-animal relationships. I had the opportunity to participate in a number of formal courses and labs relevant to horsemanship. I recently worked as a wrangler at Red Horse Mountain Ranch in northern Idaho where I took guests on trail rides, taught lessons, and cared for, tacked, trained, vetted, and rode our herd of ~100 horses. Like most people who work with horses, my team and I spent a dedicated part of our day picking pens, cleaning troughs, maintaining equipment, and other necessary chores. After some much needed time with my nephews, I am ready to return West to the mountains and a life with horses!
Specialities
Part of a team caring for 100+ head - feeding, haying, watering, turn out, vet care, etc.
Type of Ride Work
I grew up riding English but transitioned to Western when I moved out West for college. I've ridden lots of youngsters and spend thousands of hours on trails. I've worked with horses of all ages and backgrounds!
