Equine Work Experience

At Houghton University, I have worked side by side with the Barn manager to learn more aspects about managing a barn and event management. Through our Equine Nutrition and Lameness class, I helped customized feed plans for our herd of lesson horses, totaling about 30 horses. In the respective Equine Facility Management and Equine Science classes, I was taught to draw blood, administer vaccines, and create a herd organization system. I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of horses, from ponies to 16+ hand horses. At Chestnut Ridge Equestrian Program I served as the leader of the horse programs when the director or assistant director was not available. I was responsible for horse care and management and served on the Leadership Team of camp. I was the person to go to with questions about horse health, riding instruction, and issues with other staff.

Type of Ride Work

I am currently riding at training level and am working on schooling some First Level movements. I have also taken a Western class, and in my last semester at College, I focused on jumping. I also have showing experience in both Dressage and Hunter/Jumper Rings. I have also worked at a facility that does trail rides with over 9 miles of trails.
