Duties of Current Occupation
Currently a minimum wage groom at a lesson barn, looking for something I can do once I graduate highschool (I am a senior now) that involves horses while leaving me with enough resources or income to live comfortably. Living in OH, but open to travel
Equine Work Experience
I've riden for 10 years, done volunteering for 6 years, groomed at lesson barn for 3 years (grooming, hosing, tacking, sweeping, tack cleaning, feeding, wrapping, braiding, mane pulling, basic med care, lunging, turn out, hand walking, riding, & communicating with visitors/riders/parents), and helped hand walk horses in therapeutic riding lessons for about a year. I was also given the opportunity to ride one of the more difficult mares at my barn, who I especially had a good bond with, three times a week (two days I rode solo). In this time I did independent training, working on cleaner transitions, better responding to leg and reign aids in bending and turning on the forehand, and stall manners (before I worked with her, this girlie would always rear and charge in her stall). Though my experience training is not formally done alongside a professional trainer, I have found my riding techniques and on ground methods to be effective. I am always eager to learn more!
Specialities
I've worked alongside horses who some may call "spicy" -those who buck, bolt, and bite- but I haven't worked with foals, stallions, or completely green horses. I am interested in gaining more experience around different types of horses though. When riding and handling all horses I try to maintain a calm, positive, & empathetic spirit. I believe that horses are friends, & I strive to understand and acknowledge their emotions as valid and help them to feel seen, & understood before reacting.
Type of Ride Work
I've done dressage, cavalettis, flatwork, & jumping
Competition Details
I've competed in multiple schooling shows, and I've helped with caretaking for shows (grooming, braiding, bathing, tacking, polishing hooves, tacking, ect.)
