Qualifications

I have a degree in equine science with a specialization in reproduction. I’ve taken classes for management and care, training, breeding and stallion handling, mare and foal care, nutrition, and classes that ranged from first aid to pulling manes. I also spent three weeks at Cornell taking a course on everything related to equine— from first aid and diseases to types of breeds and colors.

Duties of Current Occupation

When I was in high school I worked in barns completing basic chores. First job when in college was barn manager //office and assistant trainer at a heavy lesson program and boarding facility. Current job I take care of the horses and the property.

Equine Work Experience

I’ve been riding for 10 years and have been working in horse barns for the last 7 years. In high school I completed basic barn chores such as stall cleaning, feeding and fillings waters; and I spent some time working at a lesson barn for kids with special needs. My first equine job after high school was at a heavy lesson and boarding facility where I took care of up to 38 horses and completed office work on a weekly basis. I also taught lessons for beginners to intermediate students ranging from young children to adults. In my second job since college, I take care of 15 horses at a private barn. Cleaning stalls, turning in/out, grooming, riding, feed, waters, and more. I’ve also owned an off track thoroughbred for the last year and a half— who I’ve had to restart and rehab from the ground up.

Specialities

I went to school for equine reproduction and have handled stallions, foals and broodmares. As a past barn manager I have dealt with managing workers and making sure everyone is updated on any new changes.

Type of Ride Work

I focus on more on hunters— jumping and flatwork— but I am willing to do more if needed.

Competition Details

I competed for four years before going to college and did IEA for two years. I haven’t had the chance to get back into it but I’m more than willing to get back to it.
