Duties of Current Occupation
Managing three 20+ horse training/boarding facilities. Feeding, medicating, grooming, tacking up(and cleaning tack), turn in/out, lounging and exercising horses. Cleaning stalls and maintaining cleanliness of the entire facility.
Equine Work Experience
I have worked with horses since the age of 7. I have managed 3 barns, the most recent being in 2019 at Julio and Jessica Mendozas dressage barn located in Columbus, NC. Julio was an equestrian Olympic athlete last year in Paris! He represented Ecuador, where he originated from. 🥰 I was certified in 2002 to be a riding instructor and during that time I helped with a summer camp and gave private lessons to children and some adults. I am very knowledgeable on horse behavior and I feel that I handle them and understand them very well and I absolutely love to be around them. I even enjoy mucking stalls, which some think is totally absurd, but it’s the honest truth lol. 😁 I have an extreme amount of patience and I believe that horses can teach us just as much as we can teach them. I also find it of great importance to be very recognizant of each horses condition every time I am handling them or with them. I am very cautious to look for any lameness or wounds, or even a change in behavior.
Specialities
My learning has been through hands on experience working with various trainers and instructors throughout my life. I have been certified as a riding instructor but I prefer barn management and handling horses rather than giving lessons. I also have worked as a small animal veterinary technician and I’m quite educated in animal medicine and health. I have handled and worked with both foals and stallions. I am very experienced in turning in/out horses in all types of weather.
Type of Ride Work
I have experience in almost all disciplines of riding, including: endurance/competitive trail riding, hunter/jumper, saddleseat, western pleasure, and dressage. My favorites would be competitive trail riding and hunter/jumper. I have a soft spot for ponies😌but I’ve trained and ridden horses that were over 17 hands and I enjoy riding them and working with them as well. I have also handled stallions and foals and have experience in all aspects of training from ground work to starting over fences.
Competition Details
I have competed in 4H horse shows as a child/teenager and spent 2+ years competing in endurance/long-distance trail riding. I also have ridden my employers horses at horse shows and my instructors horses at the competitive trail rides. I was also part of a group of side-saddle riders in Ohio, which consisted of a group of ladies/young girls who would ride in synchronized patterns in various parades, including the Pegasus parade at the Kentucky Derby! 🤩
