Equine Work Experience
My mom knew that she could never just buy me a huge jumper, but she might be able to breed me one. She involved me in the whole process even though I was younger at the time. We compared bloodlines of mares to stallions. I was there for every vet appointment with the mares. During the foaling months I would help with foal watch. I watched every birth and started to help when I was older. After the birth I would iodine their cord, help lead them out to the pasture using arms at first - then a butt rope, pick up their feet, halter them, rub them down and so much more. Between my mom and I, we also broke them out. Some were easy, they had mentality to please. Others felt like fighting that transition between pasture horse to work horse, it was like taking 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. While as a young adult it was frustrating at times, now I can look at all that work and see how successful they are now on the A circuit. All in all, we had several great babies!
