Bachelor's of Social Work
I am currently a student at East Carolina University. I will be graduating with a Bachelor's of Social Work in May of 2024. Through the social work program I am currently enrolled in, I am interning at a local agency, Paradigm, Inc.
I have roughly 15 years of experience being around, caring for and riding horses. I have broke/ started more ponies and OTTB's than I can count. I have taken dressage lessons and leased a few warmbloods in my time as well, but my heart truly lies with ponies and thoroughbreds. I grew up showing mostly on the C circuit with a few A/AA shows under my belt. I competed for VCU's IHSA team in 2019 at the 2'-2'6" level. After competing for VCU, the farm that we were based out of asked me to teach their summer camp which I throughly enjoyed. Though I enjoyed competing when I was younger, I was always more drawn to the training and care side of things. I am proficient in wound care, wrapping, feeding, administering medications (orally and IM), and grooming. I am a little rusty in the saddle currently as I haven't consistently ridden in a few years, but I do not think it would take me long to get back in the swing of regular training given the right opportunity.
I have spent several years learning interpersonal and written communication skills through my social work education. I have learned how to professionally work with diverse populations and staff. I have management experience as well as several years of work experience to go along with my schooling. I'm very interested in the therapeutic side of the equine field rather than the competition side at this point in my career.
I most prefer to work with green or unstarted ponies. I do not have goals of competing ever again, and I am interested in pursuing equine therapy.
Local shows up to 3' in Central VA from 2005-2015 IHSA showing for VCU in 2019
