Compiling behaviour modification programmes for the more difficult dogs in the centre. Carrying out this training and supporting and teaching staff how to carry out these programmes with the dogs. Ensuring the best possible welfare for these dogs.
• 10 years as a riding instructor, for both adults and children. • Living in house and running a very successful riding school and livery yard whenever the owners were away, including looking after their 4 dogs and 6 privately owned horses. • Owning a horse for 13 years. • All the responsibilities you would expect from helping run an equestrian centre, from instructing, running 'own a pony' days to gymkhanas and organising lessons for beginners and advanced riders.
My understanding of animal welfare has come from both hands-on experience, and a natural curiosity that has pushed me to self-educate and broaden my knowledge. From working at the bottom as a volunteer up to a Dog Trainer for the Dogs Trust to working for 10 years as a horse riding instructor and helping the overall running of an equestrian centre.
Competed in local jumping competitions on my own horse.
