Level 2 English Riding Instructor from the Certified Horsemanship Association Western Assistant Instructor from the Certified Horsemanship Association SCQF Level 4 Horse Care C+ Test Pony Club UKCC Level 2 Swimming Teacher National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
As a lifeguard I supervise the pool to prevent bathers from danger and also do cleaning duties. When swimming teaching I am required to have lots of energy and patience as I teach young enthusiastic children in a difficult teaching environment.
I have grown up with horses and have been in my local Pony Club since 2001 and have participated in many Pony Club rallies and competitions including my area Interbranch. I currently have five horses two of which are retired and semi-retired and the other three in full time work. Three months of my summer this year were spent in Pennsylvania, USA, working at a summer camp for children aged five to sixteen as a riding instructor. At the barn we had sixteen horses to look after ranging from 12hh ponies to 16hh thoroughbreds and they all came with their quirks so we had to make sure that we knew specifically how to deal with each individual horse. A typical day would start at 7:30am at the barn and I would be teaching on average five lessons a day to the children and would finish at either 6:30pm or 8:30pm depending on if I had a community lesson that day.
The main horse that I ride is a five year old 16.2hh cob type who I got just over a year ago after being broken in. I have never really worked much with young horses before last year however I'm finding it extremely rewarding to work with him even though it can be very difficult at times. I mainly do British Eventing with my horses however we like hacking out and going to the beach and the woods as well as this is definitely where they have the most fun.
