I have many years of lessons from the top horse breeders, owners and trainers throughout the USA and Belgium. I have worked in several different genres and breeds. I have graduate level degrees in Science and Technology and medicine graduating Magna Cum Laude from university and from the Police Academy. My hands on experience from a lifetime of owning and working with horses is something I take pride.
My career was in law enforcement. However, I've owned/bred horses all my life. My father, a Native American, taught me from time I could walk how to handle, train and "talk" to horses in their language.
Lunging, turnout washing/brushing, feeding, mucking out. Handled stallions during breeding and ground exercise. "Halter-fit" yearlings and older for Confirmation competition & in 1986 won Grand Champion (yearling & 3-year old), at World competition. Worked at Jefferson Downs a well known race track in New Orleans, LA when at University, breaking 2-yr olds 'to gate' as well as in breeding program. Owned 14-17 of my own horses, to include breeding, training form birth on, from halter to bit. Had many others who came to me with their "problem" horses, though this is a misnomer since I believe the fault fell to the owners more so than inherent equine misbehaviour. I was trained by my father in the ways of a "horse whisperer," believing that unless unforeseen consequences due to genetics or mis-breeding, that all horses are cooperative if they understand what's being asked of them. I've always been a lover of horses and an advocate against old time habits that break a horses spirit!
Although not abundant in the U.K. my main specialty has been with breeding, raising and training Quarter Horses. Washing/grooming/pulling manes (prior to shows)/loading & unloading young and older horses into/out of horse trailers/lunging/halter training....recognising potential flaws in breeding stock & new born foals....
Had 14 horses of my own which I took care of, trained and sold in Florida & VT Was responsible for my own stallion barn as well as main barn. ++
Although I've ridden many years in different styles e.g. Western, English, Hunter-jump, barrel racing, I ride now only for pleasure. I much prefer helping others to learn to appreciate their own skills and to recognise their approach to the entire riding experience, rather in competition or pleasure, is more dependant on their understanding of the nature of their mount rather one of brute control. And how this enhances their riding skills both in the arena &/or training yard.
Too many State trials to list. From the time I was still in elementary school I have shown horses in confirmation and barrel racing. My crowning achievement in 1986 was winning Grand Champion of a yearling colt and 3-year old in World competition in Jackson, Mississippi.
