Duties of Current Occupation
I am currently completing my second year at Myerscough College in Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma horse management. This consists of a lot of practical work on the yard taking care of the horses, mucking out, grooming, turning out, feeding and exercising.
Equine Work Experience
From 2013 to 2015, whilst still at school I was employed by Chorley Equestrian Centre at weekends and sometimes in the holidays, again on the yard looking after the horses, turning out, grooming, feeding and preparing the horses for lessons. I enjoy taking care of the horses and find this very rewarding. I also undertook a 2 week work experience at Chorley Equestrian Centre during July 2016 which was part of my course in horse management at Myerscough College. Whilst being at college, I have gained knowledege and experience in preparing horses for presentation which includes: clipping, trimming, plaiting, pulling and washing. I have experience with lungeing and long reining horses. I have gained experience in event management and have took part in managing a equine event with in hand, ridden and a clear round class.
This year I have gained experience in working with young horses and the backing process, this includes basic handling, lungeing, long reining and breaking in young horses for riding, hacking and driving.
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden a range of riding school horses at Chorley Equestrian centre and whist at college I have experienced riding a variety of horses for flatwork lessons and hacking. I have also backed young horses this year and ridden them in the school and on the roads around college.
