I volunteered down at my local showing stables for 2 years, I was still in school at this time, so I could only volunteer at weekends, unless I had a day off, then i'd be straight down the with the horses. I started working at 8am and I finished at 4pm. A good stable hand/groom is not always easy to find, however, I would like to think of myself as one of them. I have an excellent record, recognition from friends and favour with previous employers. I also volunteered on a friends yard in Woodbridge, where she bought ex race horses and bought them on. I have worked with rescue horses too. I helped bring some of the horses back into work. I currently have 2 horses and the most recent one that I'm loaning is an ex-racer off the tracks in Ireland. I was responsible for when volunteering at both yards; Taking care of the horses Mucking out stables Treating minor injuries - Cuts/Grazes Feeding Rugging up (If needed) Grooming and Plaiting.
breaking/handling youngsters, plaiting, handling stallions and riding stallions, grooming and mucking out, exercising and lunging.
i've been a groom when out showing with my friends a few times, nothing really serious but i'd like to get into serious work now.
