"I’m a rider, coach, and equestrian adventurer currently based at Joseph’s Dream Stud in Namibia, working with horses and riders to build balance, connection, and confidence.
Horses have been part of my world for as long as I can remember. I think I loved them before I could even speak, and I started riding at 10. I began working with them in my early 20s. Somehow I’m nearly 40 now and still learning every single day.
I’m especially passionate about rider biomechanics and how understanding our own minds and bodies helps us communicate more clearly and kindly with our horses ❤️"
What was the first job you found on YardandGroom?
The first job I landed through YardandGroom was actually in Namibia, over seven years ago. Funnily enough, I’ve come full circle and returned again this year! Back then it was my first time in Africa and my first job at a lodge. I was coaching and riding in a very remote location and this really put my knowledge and skills to the test. In my initial week, I was leading one of my first ever sundowners and saw a pangolin in the wild which was extremely lucky!
Where has your equestrian career taken you?
So far my career’s taken me to Taiwan, Namibia (twice!), South Africa, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Spain, Portugal, and of course England. Horses have given me so much in my life. Being able to travel and work alongside them in all these amazing locations really is a dream come true.
How did YardandGroom help your career?
YardandGroom has always been my first stop when I’m job-hunting. It’s such an easy way to connect with an incredible range of equestrian employers all over the world. Whatever your discipline or skill set there’s something for everyone.
What advice would you give to an equestrian jobseeker starting out?
Ask questions, think carefully if it aligns with where you’re at, then GO!! with an open mind and an open heart. There is so much to learn in the equestrian world and experience really only comes through doing.
What’s your favourite memory/photo from your career so far?
It has to be from my time on the exclusive island of Mustique in St Vincent and the Grenadines. I was coaching, riding, and running a lot of pony camps…it was so cool! I adore this photo of Willie, the oversized Connemara. The Caribbean colours, the sea breeze, and those lovely quiet afternoon exercise rides. That chapter still makes me smile every time I think of it.
Do you have any career-defining moments?
Definitely! When I started coaching informally in Taiwan, something just clicked. I knew I wanted to turn this passion into a profession. That realisation sent me back to the UK, where I trained at Talland and gained my BHS qualifications. It was the start of everything that followed.
Who is your horsey hero?
My current coach, Tracey Duncan. She’s completely changed the way I approach training both horses and riders. Through her guidance, I’ve learned to listen more deeply to each horse and to really value the quiet moments of communication that build real trust. She’s inspired me to become a more thoughtful, compassionate rider and coach.
Who’s your all-time favourite horse?
Oh, that’s an impossible question! But if I had to choose, it would be Malcolm, a super smart Irish Draft. He was the first horse I ever had on loan aged about 13. With him, and my early coach, we laid this super strong foundation of knowledge that has stayed with me all these years. He’ll always have a special place in my heart.
