I work at a stud farm where I am required to provide care such as mucking out, turning out and feeding for a variety of horses including foals, youngsters, mares, and stallions all of whom are highly well-bred competition horses. This has given me the experience to work with more challenging horses. Other parts of my job include administering injections, medicating, and providing first aid if necessary. During the breeding season I am required to work alongside reproductive vets performing gynaecological and pregnancy exams on the mares and providing care for the foals such as vaccination etc. I have also helped in aiding the delivery of foals and helped bring them on, teach and care for them before they are sold.
I have recently completed 6 days’ work experience in veterinary practice assisting surgeons and nurses in a variety of operations where I gained valuable knowledge. Alongside this I have many accomplishments including BHS Stage 1 in Horse Care and Riding, Bronze and Silver Ride Safe, Bronze and Silver Young Equine Leaders Awards, a full clean driving license, I am a qualified RDA coach, and have volunteered for the Riding for The Disabled Association (RDA) since 2015 attending regionals.
From the age of 6 I have always ridden and owned horses. During this time, I have experienced riding a variety of different breeds like thoroughbreds, warmbloods, Irish sports horses all with different temperaments and quirks that I have had to quickly adapt to. This has allowed me to further my riding skills and help understand the horses’ strengths and weaknesses to enhance their performance and bring out the best in them.
I have competed in shows and qualified for various grassroots events and qualified for events at places such as Crow Wood equestrian. I mainly competed at shows in equitation classes but I have also done various showjumping competitions, dressage competitions and one day events and hope this season to compete in ROR dressage.
