Farley Hall Equestrian Centre is seeking an experienced, motivated and hands-on Assistant Yard Manager to support the day-to-day operation of our busy and professional livery yard.

Working closely with the Livery Yard Manager, this role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Groom or Senior Groom looking to progress into a management position within a well-established equestrian business.

This is a practical, working management role. The successful candidate will lead by example, maintaining exceptional standards of horse welfare, customer service and yard presentation whilst supporting the supervision and development of the yard team.

The Role

As Assistant Yard Manager you will:

• Support the day-to-day operation and management of the livery yard.
• Deputise for the Livery Yard Manager during periods of absence.
• Supervise and support yard staff, apprentices and work experience students.
• Assist with daily staff planning and rota management.
• Take an active role in all practical yard duties including mucking out, feeding, turnout, grooming and horse care.
• Oversee daily horse welfare checks and ensure the highest standards of care are maintained.
• Maintain accurate horse welfare, treatment and stock records.
• Monitor feed, bedding and forage stocks.
• Assist with client onboarding, stable allocations and customer service.
• Help maintain the excellent presentation and reputation of the yard and facilities.

About You

You will be:

• An experienced groom, senior groom or yard supervisor with excellent horse care knowledge.
• Confident supervising and motivating a small team.
• Organised, proactive and capable of managing multiple priorities.
• Calm under pressure and able to make sound decisions.
• Passionate about horse welfare and maintaining exceptional standards.
• Professional, approachable and confident dealing with clients.
• Reliable, flexible and willing to work as part of a hands-on team.

Essential Requirements

• Significant experience working within a professional livery, competition or equestrian environment.
• Excellent practical horse husbandry skills.
• Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• BHS qualifications or equivalent.
• First Aid qualification.
• Experience within a full or part livery environment.
• Previous supervisory or assistant management experience.

Hours & Benefits

• Full-time position.
• 5 days over 7, including weekends on a rota basis.
• Working hours of 7am to 4pm, including a one-hour lunch break.
