Salary: Starting Salary £31,160 plus £4,150 Outer London Weighting
Location: The Stockyard,. Bushy Park, Hampton Court Road, Hampton, Middlesex TW12 2EJ. To train horses of all types, breeds and temperament, including young, untrained and/or partly trained, for Mounted Police duties. To train Police Officers in equitation skills and knowledge ensuring continual development and competence. To coordinate and conduct equitation courses to the required standard under the guidance of the Stable manager. To provide daily care and horse husbandry to up to 9 horses.
Responsibilities In this role, you will be responsible for: Maintaining the health and well-being of horses in the care of the City of London Police
To introduce, train and assess new horses to sufficiently accept routine tasks associated with their care and welfare to enable all Police staff and Officers to handle them. Including leading in hand, tacking up, lunging, use of the horse walker, paddock turnout, shoeing, trotting up, clip-ping, trimming, loading and unloading into a horse box.
To work with the training staff and document effective and suitable training and stable management plans for individual horses during pre-purchase trials, remount or remedial training, with consideration for the operational demands of the unit.
To deliver group and individual equitation coaching sessions to Mounted Police Officers ensuring they are competent to assume mounted duties, and progress to NPCC Mounted Standard, Intermediate or Advanced level of equitation as appropriate.
To work as a team with all equine trainers to achieve shared goals and responsibilities, including writing timetables to utilise time and resources effectively.
Requirements
Knowledge of horses including welfare, safety, handling, feeding, general care and equipment
Teaching qualifications are desirable, although a background of teaching experience or willing to learn would be considered.
British Horse Society Stage 3 or 4 Riding and Care Certificate are desirable but evidence of experience relevant to the above standards are also accepted.
Willingness to undertake training in NPCC Mounted Instruction and other relevant courses
Experience of training and developing all types of horses including young/partially trained, both in the school and on the road
Experience of working for an equestrian training centre is desirable
Experience of teaching people both equitation and theory at beginner level is desirable.
