We seek an experienced equine professional with patience, warmth and a genuine interest in helping young people develop through relationships with horses. Small groups and individual learning allow close attention to each learner’s needs and progress.
Our therapeutic, person-centred and horse-centred environment values kind horsemanship, learner wellbeing and horse welfare. Our focus is learning, confidence and personal development rather than competition or performance sport.
JOB PURPOSE Supervise the day-to-day education programme, coordinating staff and activities and ensuring learners’ safety, wellbeing and safeguarding. Deliver personalised equine learning and vocational qualifications, with assessment where appropriately qualified.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Supervise sessions for young people with additional needs, coordinating staff and one-to-one support and adapting activities to each learner. • Provide a safe, supportive environment, with equal concern for participants and horses and safeguarding central to daily practice. • Support horse care, handling, riding, yard activities and horse exercise and training within your competence and qualifications. • Complete daily records and evaluations, contribute to half-termly progress reports and provide evidence for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews. • Work creatively and collaboratively with education support workers and the wider team, following our values, policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES Strong professional equine experience and an appropriate qualification route: Level 4+ equine qualification, recognised equestrian coaching qualification, relevant degree and/or relevant assessing qualification. These are alternatives; applicants do not need all qualifications listed. An assessor qualification is desirable, not mandatory.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES CONTINUED Understanding of person-centred learning, neurodiversity and young people’s mental health needs. Patience, enthusiasm and a perceptive, responsive approach, adapting to each learner. Confident supervision, clear communication and strong organisation and administration. Kind horsemanship, sound horse welfare knowledge and a genuine interest in therapeutic equestrian work. Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES Teaching, lecturing or vocational assessment experience; a relevant assessor qualification; equine facilitated or animal assisted learning training or experience; horsemanship training; animal care experience; and experience supporting disabled or disadvantaged young people or working with a range of horses.
An assessor qualification is desirable, not mandatory. Formal assessment duties require the appropriate qualifications and compliance with awarding organisation requirements.
REQUIREMENTS Appointment is subject to satisfactory safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, an appropriate barred list check where legally required, two references, and verification of qualifications, identity and right to work in the UK.
KEY SKILLS Kind horsemanship, safe handling, horse care and welfare, people skills, learner and staff supervision, safeguarding, record keeping and progress reporting. Equine groundwork experience is welcomed.
