We are looking for two part-time Education Support Workers to join our therapeutic equestrian education programme. Working days and hours will be agreed with successful applicants.
Our small programme supports a maximum of six learners through individual learning and small group activities. We help young people develop confidence, wellbeing, independence and practical skills through positive relationships with horses and people.
Our approach is person-centred and horse-centred, with kind horsemanship and equal concern for learner wellbeing and horse welfare.
JOB PURPOSE Support young people with additional educational needs to participate in personalised learning and therapeutic activities, working alongside the Education Programme Supervisor and wider team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide individual and small group support, adapting to each learner’s communication, sensory, emotional and learning needs. • Help learners engage in horse care, safe handling, yard activities and other practical learning. • Support riding and groundwork activities where appropriate to your experience, training and agreed responsibilities. • Encourage confidence, independence and positive relationships through a patient, responsive approach. • Help maintain a safe, supportive environment and follow safeguarding procedures, reporting concerns promptly. • Complete daily observations and records, contributing to progress reports and EHCP reviews. • Work collaboratively with colleagues and follow our values, policies and procedures.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS No specific qualification is mandatory. We welcome applicants with relevant equine qualifications or practical equine experience, or experience as a teaching assistant, support worker or in a similar learner-support role.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES Patience, warmth and a genuine interest in supporting young people in a therapeutic equestrian environment. A person-centred approach and understanding of neurodiversity, additional learning needs and mental health needs.
Clear communication, organisation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A perceptive, flexible approach, respect for professional boundaries and commitment to safeguarding.
Applicants must be willing to develop safe, kind horse-handling skills and work within their competence. Equine activities will reflect each staff member’s experience and training.
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES Experience supporting disabled or disadvantaged young people; equine or animal care qualifications or experience; teaching assistant or support worker experience; equine assisted learning training; and experience in therapeutic horsemanship or groundwork.
