** POSITION SUMMARY:** To manage the daily operation of the Equestrian Center to include providing quality horse care in a safe, well-maintained facility with related functions available to all Ken-Caryl Ranch residents and ensure quality maintenance is performed in a timely manner and within budget. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise barn staff to ensure quality horse care and efficient operations.
  • Assist staff with daily horse care (feeding, watering, cleaning).
  • Manage billing, invoicing, and administrative documents (boarding, sub-leases, agreements).
  • Maintain spreadsheets for safety, insurance, contact info, and work orders.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory, ensuring budget compliance.
  • Oversee and coordinate with independent trainers to ensure adherence to KCRMA policies.
  • Support the Riding School Manager with lessons, shows, events, and horse care.
  • Direct and assist with facility upkeep (fencing, arenas, barns, water systems).
  • Ensure landscape maintenance, pest control, and defensible space.
  • Maintain work equipment (tractors, trailers, groomers).
  • Develop and train staff on emergency procedures and site security protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on operational planning, safety, budgets, and performance evaluation.
  • Communicate effectively with boarders, staff, and residents.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts in line with KCRMA procurement standards.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Promote community engagement through outreach, events, and educational opportunities.
  • Regularly review and update safety and emergency plans.

Requirements

**REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: **

  • 2+ years managing a barn or equestrian facility preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of horse care, facility operations, and equine health.
  • Familiarity with trail riding, hunters/jumpers, western, and dressage is desirable.
  • Daily interaction with boarders, residents, vets, farriers, and professionals; must resolve issues transparently and promptly.
  • Skilled in equine wellness, feed/water management, and footing condition assessment. Must quickly identify/address hazards.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and waste systems; experience with tools and machinery is preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Able to assess emergencies and notify appropriate authorities.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and efficient under pressure.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; willingness to learn new software.
  • Able to engage with diverse personalities and work collaboratively.
  • Leadership skills and flexibility to work evenings/weekends as needed.
  • Must be on-site 40 hrs/week and available for emergencies.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License and insurable under KCRMA’s policy. WORK & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work occurs in varied conditions at the Equestrian Center and office.
  • Frequent moderate physical activity.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, noise, uneven/slippery surfaces, and equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Physical abilities include standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, gripping, crawling, and repetitive movement.** Candidates are subject to pre-employment criminal background and DMV record review, along with possible reference checks.This Employer Participates in E-Verify.
