ISO Manager/ Team Leader for Riverdale Stables

After ten successful years running the facility, we have completed a long-term lease with NYC and will soon begin a full-score renovation and modernization of the Riverdale Stables in Van Cortlandt Park. We are the largest operating horse barn within the five boroughs of NYC, and we run at a NYC pace! We boast an indoor arena, 4 lighted outdoor rings, 12 turnout paddocks and 70 stalls. We are NYC’s largest and busiest stable- teaching approximately 400 lessons a week. We offer programs and riding for all ages- from all backgrounds. You will never meet a more diverse group of clients as you will at Riverdale Stables. We offer: Lessons, Drill Teams, IEA, IHSA, Adults-Only Programs, Summer Leases, Hippotherapy programs, Unmounted programs, Scouts and school trips, Photo/TV/Movie work, Boarding, and Showing on the local and national circuit. There is always something new going on at Riverdale and you will NEVER be bored. On any given day, you could be teaching a first-time riding lesson, organizing a fleet for an outgoing horse show, or facilitating a photo shoot for a TV show or movie.

Our facility is located in the Riverdale section of The Bronx, within the historic Van Cortlandt Park, and the renovations that will be completed over the next few years will result in a completely updated and modern facility.

We are ISO a manager to oversee trainers, grooms, office staff, programming, and horse care. This is a senior position for someone who can think on their feet, solve problems, manage people, horses and (while this is not a specific teaching or riding position) step in to teach or ride when staff are absent. We are looking for a unique, city-savvy, individual who can help us make a great program even better as we expand and renovate. This is an unique opportunity for someone who is interested in urban horsemanship and wants to expand their knowledge of horse-care and barn-management in a fast-paced and fun environment.

This is NOT a first job for a just out of equine college applicant- nor is it a job for an hour-counting clock watching municipal sort , or someone who does not like or understand how to manage people. You will work long hours. You will work weekends. You will think that you are done for the day and then something will come up that requires your attention. That is the nature of the horse business. You will, however, have more fun than you could imagine and learn new skills every day with a marvelous fleet of horses, a great staff, loyal and enthusiastic clients, and experienced owners who will support and guide you throughout the process.
