This is a 12-18 month live-in training position. In search of a horse-loving, kid-loving, friendly, hard-working recent college graduate or young adult AGE 21+ who is interested in learning and growing in a thriving equestrian program at a Christian camp and retreat center. Prefer Western and English riding experience, including lessons. Camp experience (even as a camper) is a plus! Opportunity for riding instructor certification, attending clinics, and other skill development. This is a live-in position.
This position is focused on riding school and horse camp career development. Key focus areas of learning include equestrian program management, riding instruction, herd management, pasture management, children/youth development, marketing and event planning, equestrian program and partnership development, and fundraising.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: assisting with leadership for the Equestrian program through horse care and riding instruction; designing, planning, and implementing summer camp equestrian activities and programs; supervising part-time or seasonal equestrian staff; feed and care for horses; evaluating and maintaining program equipment; demonstrating and teaching safe equestrian practices; participating in the worship life of the community, and other duties as assigned.
Equestrian Specialist Assistants live in their own room in shared housing (no pets please) in an open-minded and open-hearted Christian community that eats, prays, works, and plays together. Specialists are expected to work approximately 40+ hours per week. The Camp Director, Equestrian Program Director, and Assistant Equestrian Program Director will be your supervisors.
Equestrian Specialist Assistants should also be willing to occasionally participate in all facets of camp life.
Requirements
Applicant MUST BE at least 21 years old or older and have these gifts and skills: • at least 4 years’ instructed riding lessons/training with an instructor, as well as horsemanship experience
- passion for and experience in working with children or youth • enjoyment of working in the outdoors • desire to be loving and patient with children and youth • team player with a strong work ethic • excellent communication skills • gifts in hospitality, creativity, flexibility, and ability to work both in a team and independently • willingness to have a flexible schedule and work some evenings, weekends or holidays as needed

Equestrian Employer Details
The camp and retreat center is made up of 362 acres, including hardwood forests, an 11 acre lake, 30 acres of horse pasture, and a community farm. The camp is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and offers 10-11 weeks of day and residential Christian camp to children from kindergarten to high school. It is also a year-round retreat and recreation facility, offering a chance to get away for groups and families. The equestrian program offers riding lessons, summer camp, and recreational trail rides. Riding is both English and Western. There are currently 22 horses.
