Wilson College invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Equestrian Center Coordinator/Instructor at our renowned Penn Hall Equestrian Center. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team that supports both the academic and co-curricular missions of the Equine and Animal Studies Division.
This multifaceted role combines teaching with hands-on leadership at a large, active facility. The ideal candidate is an experienced equine professional who thrives in a student-centered environment and can serve as a mentor, instructor, and supervisor.
The Coordinator is responsible for daily operations of the Equestrian Center, including the care of up to 71 horses. Key duties include managing the facility’s budget, coordinating with vendors, overseeing horse use and acquisition, and ensuring high standards of care and maintenance. The role also involves teaching two equine management courses per semester, mentoring students, contributing to curriculum development, and supervising full-time, part-time, and student staff.
Requirements
COMPETENCIES:
- Proven ability to manage a large equine facility supporting academic classes, clinics, events, boarding, and more.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills across full-time, part-time, student, and volunteer staff.
- Commitment to safety, animal welfare, and operational excellence.
- Budget management experience with fiscal responsibility.
- Highly organized and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach with strong interpersonal skills.
- Effective communicator and mentor in academic and experiential learning settings.
POSITION TYPE & HOURS:
- Full-time, 12-month role (40 hours/week), typically weekdays with some evenings/weekends based on events.
- Participates in rotating on-call schedule; essential personnel during closures.
- Non-Wilson teaching/business must occur during off-hours and not interfere with job duties.
TRAVEL:
- Limited, as needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s in Equine Science, Animal Science, or related field required; Master’s preferred.
- At least five years of large-scale equine facility management (or equivalent combination of education/experience).
- Experience in academic/college settings and teaching equine courses preferred.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to drive College vehicles and tow horse trailers.
- Valid driver’s license and completion of Wilson’s driver safety certification required.
- Must pass background check, child abuse clearance, and FBI fingerprinting.
