We are looking for a professional groom with experience handling stallions to join the training department at Coves Darden. You will work mostly with young P.R.E. horses including colts who have had extensive handling as foals and are just starting under saddle. This is an important moment in the development of a young horse that requires advanced horsemanship skills to teach youngsters to stand quietly in cross ties for tacking up and bathing, etc. You will be bringing horses in from the paddock, groom and tack horses for dressage trainers, give medication as needed, keep up with laundry, and take care of the tack and work space and at the end of the day turn horses back out.
Our staff enjoys work- life balance with 8 hour regular work days from Monday- Friday 7:00 am to 3:30pm. At times, clients looking at a sales horse may need to be accommodated later in the day or on weekends for part of the day. If we are away competing we take the following Monday off.
Other tasks: You may have horses to hand walk or lunge. You need to know how to give IM and IV shots and administer oral or topical medications as prescribed, properly apply standing wraps or bandages in the case of an injury.
This position includes all things grooming! No mucking, No landscaping, No riding unless you are sufficiently skilled to contribute to the program.
The work environment is productive and positive here and that is fundamental to us.
Pay is negotiable and starts at $1,000.00 weekly via direct deposit. Employee housing on site is a semi furnished 3 bedroom brick house on a spacious fenced lot.
