Position Overview

Southern Way Farm is seeking a Barn Manager / Assistant Trainer to join our professional hunter/jumper program. This role is ideal for a reliable, experienced horse person who values exceptional horse care, consistency, and a well-run at-home program. The position is primarily based at home and includes increased responsibility when head trainers are out of town.

Key Responsibilities

Barn Management & Horse Care

• Oversee daily barn operations with a strong focus on horse welfare
• Ensure consistent feeding, turnout, grooming, and care routines
• Administer daily medications and supplements as required
• Monitor horse health, soundness, and condition; communicate concerns promptly
• Coordinate with grooms, veterinarians, and farriers as needed
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe barn environment

Training & Riding

• Ride select horses as needed to support the program
• Maintain training standards and consistency in the absence of head trainers
• Teaching & Client Support
• Teach beginner lessons in a safe, professional manner
• Assist riders with tacking, untacking, and general horsemanship
• Uphold the standards and culture of Southern Way Farm

Requirements

• Hunter/Jumper experience required
• Strong foundation in horse care and barn management
• Confident, safe instructor for beginner riders
• Valid driver’s license required
• Reliable, organized, and comfortable taking responsibility
• Professional demeanor with clients, staff, and horses
• Ability to follow and maintain an established training program

Schedule & Expectations

• Part-time position with increased hours when trainers are out of town
• Primarily an at-home role This is not a showing position

Compensation & Benefits Starting at $1,600 per month Commission opportunities (lessons, rides, additional services) Housing may be provided for the right candidate Opportunity for growth within the program for the right fit
