Old Dominion Equine Associates is a progressive, team-oriented equine veterinary practice located just outside Charlottesville, Virginia. We are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care to our equine patients and exceptional service to their owners. Our team specializes in preventative care, lameness, reproduction, dentistry, and emergency services for horses of all disciplines and breeds.

We are seeking a dedicated, honest, hard-working, and motivated Equine Ambulatory Veterinary Assistant to join our field services team. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role ideal for someone passionate about equine care and eager to grow in a collaborative environment. Extensive horse handling experience is a must! This position primarily supports one veterinarian but requires flexibility to assist other doctors, work varied schedules, and help with office or operational tasks as needed

What You’ll Do -Assist with exams, lameness evaluations, imaging, and procedures -Safely handle and restrain horses (including lunging/jogging) -Travel to farms and various locations daily -Maintain equipment, inventory, and veterinary vehicles -Support client communication and medical records -Assist with both clinical and non-clinical tasks as needed

Schedule & Expectations -Office hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM -Schedule determined by supervising veterinarian or practice manager -Hours may vary based on caseload and emergencies (24/7 care provided) -Must work minimum 32 hours/week to maintain full-time status -Meet-up locations vary (Keswick office, Zion Crossroads, or doctor’s location) -During slower seasons, duties may include office work, training, and projects

Requirements

Qualifications Prior experience working with horses is required -Strong animal handling skills and a calm, confident demeanor around horses -Excellent communication and organizational skills -Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in various conditions, and travel locally -Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation -Ability to pass a background check -Does not bring or promote drama!

Additional Notes -This is an in-person position only -Flexibility is essential—some schedule variation and occasional holiday work may be required (alternate day off provided)
