I am a keen aspiring groom who has been working with horses on a voluntary basis, and am now looking for a full or part-time opportunity to progress my career and gain more experience. I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. Ideally, I would be looking for a role in the Basingstoke area while I'm learning to drive, but happy to consider a live-in position in the wider Hampshire region or further afield.
My name is Daisie, I am 18 years old and have owned horses for the past 5 years. I have previously worked on an international showjumping yard and am keen to pursue my next job. I am open to any discipline and able to adapt to every yards standards and needs.
Level 1 and 2 in Racehorse Care and Management and I am currently working towards my Level 3.
Level 3 in transporting horses
GCSE's and A-Levels all A* to A
Riding out up to 6 lots of racehorses per day, checking legs, assisting the vet, feeding up to 120 horses, assisting with breaking and riding away breakers, traveling with horses to the races, turning out to a high standard, pulling manes
My equine experience has primarily been within the racing sphere, however, I am keen to adapt myself to a new line of work in a new discipline. Whilst working in North Yorkshire I worked for the leading racehorse trainer in the UK, Mark Johnston, and also Karl Burke whilst riding out for several smaller trainers in my spare time. I became assistant yard manager and my responsibilities included checking legs, feeding, assisting the vet, and general equine first aid. In addition to swimming horses and operating the water treadmill. In terms of riding I would ride up to 6 lots at my place of work plus extra in my spare time. These were fit race-ready thoroughbreds. I also played an active role in the breaking process by lungeing youngsters and riding them away which is something that I thoroughly enjoy.
As well as my experience within racing I have ridden a variety of horses all of my life and have a keen interest in all equine disciplines.
I have experience working with a variety of horses from foals, competition horses, stallions, and broodmares. Whilst working for Mark Johnston, the UK's leading racehorse trainer I became an assistant yard manager. Part of my responsibilities in this role included leading our team of 10 grooms when the yard manager was not in. They were all very happy working with me and I enjoy working within a team as well as leading one.
I have experience riding a variety of horses but have recently focused on racehorses so am keen to expand and adapt myself to other types of horses. I have ridden many problem horses within my previous jobs and like to think I have made a positive impact on them. As you will see if you give me the chance to show you, I am a kind and sympathetic rider. I believe this is what helps me when it comes to breaking and riding away youngsters. I have schooled racehorses over fences.
I have traveled horses to the races up to and down the country and abroad turning them out to a high standard and often winning best turned out prizes.
My experience traveling to showjumping competitions and events is limited however I am a very quick learner and I hope you will see from my previous equine experience that I will not take much training.
