Customer service, working on the till, handing money, opening/closing the store, general tidying of the shop, restocking and checking in new stock, assisting customers with feed out to car, giving advice on the correct feed for customers animals.
I have volunteered and worked in a riding school for around 6 years in total. While volunteering i assisted in getting horses ready for lessons/treks, helping customers getting on/off the horse, adjusting stirrups, turning horses in/out. Feeding, trimming manes/feathers, cleaning tack and ensuring it is not broken/unsafe, assisting out on rides. When I became employed, I Became of the instructors and sole charge of the yard on my shifts. Taking out treks, doing lessons (mainly with kids) schooling the horses, dealing with customers, helping customers with fitting hats/boots, ensuring the safety of my customers and staff on the yard, dealing with bookings and payments. I studied Equine Studies for 3 years gaining up to my HNC. I also own 2 horses of my own for around 4 years as well. I have also done work experience at a few different types of yard (livery yard, show jumping yard/sales/livery).
I have done some work with broodmares/foals but not a whole lot, but I am keen to learn more. I am used to and confident on handing a variety of different horses. At one of my jobs I was sole charge of the yard and was the team leader giving tasks out to staff and ensure they were being met, ensuring the safety of the staff and ensuring tasks were handed out equally. I have good time keeping skills, and always like to get tasks done quick and efficiently. Ensuring everything is kept neat/tidy.
I have ridden riding school horses, horses at my college, and variety of different horses, they have varied from school masters to slightly green or nervous, young horses etc. With my own 2 horses they were both project horses (1 had not been ridden in 6 years) which were both problem horses that were nappy and one of them had a rearing problem, I have lunged, schooled/hacked them, doing lessons, some jumping/cross country. I have not started any horses but is something I am interested learning
I have not competed myself or been involved in being a competition groom. But it is something I am interested in learning and gaining experience in. And I hope to soon start competing my own 2 horses.
