I have been around horses my whole life, I was lucky enough to part loan a pony till the age of 16 before owning my own horse for the past 2 years. Her name was Shrimpie who I did low level showjumping on as well as unaffiliated events up to 90cm but mainly just had fun in training. I have had a part time job at a full livery yard where when on shift, I was in charge of the welfare of at least 10 horses at a time. As well as the regular yard chores, I turned horses out for competitions to a high standard for owners, listened to their requirements and worked attentively to reach both the horses' and owners' needs. I was confident in my decisions when working on this yard with the horse's welfare always being my top priority and was quick to apply first aid to any niggles the horses may have. One horse for example had suffered from canker earlier in the year so I became competent in the ability to dress her foot using iodine dressings for full confidence from the owner.
My last horse Shrimpie was a red-mist mare so she taught me to be a quiet sympathetic rider. Her flatwork had come onto a 'novice' level of dressage test, she was much more straightforward to jump however slightly whizzy so took quite a lot of calming. Hacking I'm used to a sharp spooky horse that will turn on a sixpence or throw in the odd bronk. Since the loss of Shrimpie I've been confident to sit on a lot of different youngsters to help bring on but not started a horse.
I've helped groom for friends at dressage, showjumping and low level eventing up to novice as well as doing unaffiliated events myself.
