Travelling with competition horses horse first aid High standard of turn out Yard maintenance Lunging Clipping Equine first aid Plaiting Bandaging liveries
I have experience breeding and owning my own horses and have backed, lunged and trained them. I worked in a casual job role at Hadlow College while studying and looking after my own horses.
Im currently the lead travelling competition groom at a 4 star eventing yard overseeing 20 horses. Im solely responsible for overseeing the care and turnout of the horses. I’m used to long days, hard work, emergencies and can keep a cool head. I work well in a team but can equally work unassisted.
While studying I took part in 1 weeks work experience at Bell Equine Vets assisting and watching the work of the vets and assisting veterinary nurses which included observing surgery’s, exams, X-rays, stock count, yard duties, laser treatments and aftercare of the surgery. I also completed 2 weeks at Newnham Court entailed similar jobs and observing surgery in the clinic, as well as a more hands on help with the aftercare of the horses.
I am hardworking and committed to my duties. I work well within a team and equally alone and have experience and confidence in taking sole charge. I have had an apprentice working under me and been in charge of teaching and overseeing their work. I am organised with exceptional time management skills, and I understand the importance of a cool head under pressure. I have exceptionally high standards of how the horses are kept and turned out but also how the yard is kept and maintained.
I have bred my own horses and backed them bringing them onto low level unaffiliated competitions. I have worked riding school horses throughout the summer getting them fit for when students return. I currently hack and exercise competition eventing horses. Part of my equine management diploma was a riding element for which I received high marks and praise.
I have 18 months experience being head travelling groom for a 4* event rider including national and international competitions from 1-5 horses. For my college diploma I was in charge of organising and creating the annual show which counted towards our grade for which I received distinction *, I overlooked everyone’s roles, dealt with vendors, members of the public and made ensured it ran smoothly. I currently compete 2 of my own horses to a low unaffiliated level in showjumping.
